The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. Following a reform in the 1980s several of the formerly independent colleges now belong to a larger universities. Referring to components of a university, there are residential colleges which deliver residence for students, each undergraduate and postgraduate, named university colleges These colleges normally present added tutorial assistance, and some host theological study.
